SPECIAL COMMISSION IN PERU TO SUPERVISE TOURISM PLAN IN MACHU PICCHU

Authorities of Machu Picchu district in Cusco will create a special commission to monitor the Regional Tourism Strategic Plan (Pertur) which includes the possibility to develop some projects, such as the cable car, in this zone.

According to the local municipality, this group will be integrated by town representatives, community-based organizations and civil society, in coordination with Cusco’s authorities.

This agreement was established during a meeting with the Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur), in which head, Jean Paul Benavente, expounded on the eventual cable car project in Machu Picchu as an alternative to the tourist service.

Benavente presented the analysis of Machu Picchu current situation as well as the scopes of the implementation of new routes to avoid excessive traffic in the Inca citadel, main Cusco’s attraction.

In a previous meeting, attendants disagreed with the construction of a cable car; however, there will be another meeting to offer more details about this initiative.
